Hello waynef51
The symptoms you describe appear to be nerve damage as a long term complication of diabetes. Neuropathy can occur in any nerve in the body. It can effect functioning of any organ because nerves supply the impulses sent by the brain that tells organs and tissues what to do. The best thing a diabetic can do to prevent or delay this complication is to control glucose levels and keep their HgA1c equal to or less than 7% as recommended by the American Diabetes Association or equal to or under 6.5% as recommended by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.

Medications are available to help manage nerve damage and the pain it causes. See your primary care provider or diabetic specialist to discuss treatment. Some of the medications that can help with nerve pain are low cost medicines such as Amitriptyline that can be purchased for a small fee some chain pharmacies.

Apply for assistance in the county and state where you live to see if you qualify for Welfare and Medicaid. If not, find a free clinic or medical school that may treat you for a low cost and ask for a low cost medication to help with the neuropathy.
