"I have DPN and have struggled with bad feet. I recently used a different pair of walking shoes. The shoes hurt my right foot and it is now swollen."
Asked By: larry cates
Category: Neuropathy

Background Info Hide
My feet used to be all swollen and hurt quite a bit but since I have gotten my blood sugar level under control I haven't had any trouble. Before this incident I was walking 22-25 miles a week. I haven't been able to walk in about 3 weeks. My right foot is all swollen and puffy and it looks like it is bruised. I saw my regular MD but I told him I had an appt. with my podiatrist the 1st of March so he didn't even look at it. What can I do to get some relief and start walking again?

Thanks for writing dLife. Your question is very important and while it is good that you have a podiatrist appointment soon, the problem you are describing does need more immediate medical evaluation. Please do see a physician as soon as possible as your foot does need to be examined by a medical doctor. There can be different reasons for the symptoms and signs you describe and for a proper treatment plan, a diagnosis must be in place. You may need to stay off of your feet until this is resolved. Best of luck to you- I hope this is taken care of soon!
