Dear Robert- Thank-you for contacting dLife.com. You did not mention your age or if you have ever had a colonoscopy. Whenever there is blood noted in the stool it is recommended to have your doctor order a hemocult stool test, which you do at home and you take 2-3 samples of stool from various times put a small amount on a card and send it in to the lab. They test it with guiac for blood. Many times blood specked stool is from internal or external hemorroids. But the American Cancer Society recommends testing, and recommends a colonoscopy in people over 50 or earlier if there is any family history.

Please discuss this with your MD and ask for the hemocult testing which is quite simple and easy to do in the comfort of your own home.

The results will help you and your MD to determine the next step.

You are doing an excellent job on your self management for diabetes. Take one more step and discuss this with your MD for screening.
