Hello Mouse51: Thank you for bring your concern to dLife, and please let me reassure you this is a frequent occurrence (although very unsettling), and with some people, this may be the very first sign of a problem. Generally, an eye exam/change in glasses are not encouraged until the blood glucose is well with range. Elevations in the glucose impacts the lens refraction's ability and may take a long while to return to normal, however, each person is individual in response.

How to keep your eyes free of disease :

  • keep the blood glucose levels close to normal, (<140 mg/dl per AACE <180 mg/dl ADA), lowers risk of getting eye diseases or slows any progression
  • Control blood pressure, (<130/80 mug). Blood pressure will respond to weight loss, eating less salt and avoiding alcohol, (if it is a concern). If you smoke, please stop. Lower the cholesterol, (if this is also a concern). Be sure to have your yearly dilated eye and visual exams by an Ophthalmologist. He/she has tool and tests to find any potential damage early. Be your best, regards Sue
