Hello,

Thanks for asking dLife.

HDL stands for high density lipoprotein. It is also known as the "good" cholesterol.

HDL's job is to remove excess cholesterol from the blood stream. It helps transport the LDL (bad cholesterol) out of the tissues to be removed out of the body. High HDL levels can indicate a lower risk of heart disease.

Your lifestyle has the single greatest impact on your HDL cholesterol. Even small changes to your daily habits can help you meet your HDL target

To increase HDL:

  • Don't smoke

  • Maintain a healthy weight

  • Get more physical activty

  • Choose healthier fats

    Take care.

I increased mine dramatically which I mainly believed was due to 7 hours/week of weight training but there were so many changes at once I couldn't say for sure the source. As for studies - would you believe 1. Cut carbs 2. Eat more eggs Unbelievable, right? See link below (from Alan)

All the other advice works but for me it wasn't enough. My HDL was very low at 19 but my total cholesterol was also very low and my endrocrinologist wasn't too worried. Then I tried a product called Longevatrol. I took one capsule daily and my next HDL had risen to 34. All other values of my lipid profile remained basically the same. I stopped for a few months and my HDL dropped so I resumed taking the product. I have been taking it for over three years and so far, so good. I have no financial ties to the product or the company that makes it. Good luck
