"Why is it that although there are more men suffering from type 2 diabetes, more women die from it ?"

Dear dLife guest:
Although there are more men with diabetes (12 million over age 20), the incidence of diabetes in women is still pretty close (11.5) and unfortunately increasing.
Although diabetes is the 7th cause of death in the nation, we have to consider that Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among people with diabetes — about 68 percent die of heart disease or stroke.
Most people don't realize that heart disease is the number one killer of women in this country. The overall risk for death among people with diabetes is about double that of people without diabetes.
February is Heart Health Month, and so we have to check our heart risk factors, including cholesterol, blood pressure and weight!
