Losing weight for a child newly diagnosed is common, but once the child regains control and starts to have good blood sugar readings, weight comes back gradually. I would ask how his control has been (A1C); if his blood sugars are still running too high he will lose weight. You should talk to a CDE or your doctor for advisement on this matter. Good luck! I have two boys with diabetes; I know the challenges.
