"How long does it take for Glyburide to start to lower my BG's?"
Asked By: gmctaylor

Background Info Hide
Diagnosed with gestational diabetes 2 months ago. Fasting BG anywhere from 84 (if I eat a meal in the middle of the night) to 116 (if I sleap throughout the night). With every meal my BG's get higher 2 hrs post despite strict diet I'm trying to stick to. After breatfast BG ranges 90-120, after lunch ranges 120-150, after dinner ranges 135-160. Only been on Glyburide 2 days and seeing the immediate drop in BG after breakfast but not much better with lunch, dinner, or fasting BG;s.

Thank-you for contacting dLife.com. Maintaining consistent at goal level glucose ranges during pregnancy for the Gestational diabetic mother is essential. If you are unable to maintain the goal levels your MD recommended, it is important you report these results to him/her.

There are times as the pregnancy progresses that Mom's are started on NPH insulin twice a day to provide better control of glucose. It is also important to remember that there are rare instances that Moms will convert to Type 2 diabetes during pregnancy.

Take your glucose reporting to your MD to discuss the ranges and follow the recommendations. You may need to just simply walk after each meal for 15 minutes to bring the glucose down or there may be and increase in frequency of the Glyburide or a change in treatment.

This must be discussed with your MD and a call ASAP is worthwhile if your next visit is too far away.

Stay well Stay active and self managed.
