Hello NanaShi:
Thank you for asking dLife and being conscientious to the recent developments of the new and improved methodologies-terminology used for diabetes management. This new method of eAG, or estimated average glucose, has recently come into vogue, due to the fact it represents values seen by clients in their ever day practice of self-blood glucose monitoring , or a more 'user friendly' value.

The eAG is a value derived from the A1C via a formula, a formula the American Diabetes Association and other reputable sources found to be most accurate to reflect glycemic control and include individual variations, or actual formula:"28.7 X A1C-46.7=eAG." The perception is that the" A1C is not easy to explain" and "does not relate to daily glucose results." These values, the eAG and A1C, are perceived to potentially enhance the diabetes education process: using those daily glucose checks as well as long-term control results.

Discussions on the short comings of the A1C have been under study for approx. 6-8 years. These discussions revolved around:

  • controversies of how to standardize results
  • incorporate blood dynamic changes
  • provided for user friendly education in clinical practice
  • simplify education terminology for the 21 million people dealing with diabetes, and easily answer the question, "what target do I need to meet to keep me healthy over the long term?"

How to cope? Once you have transcended all the emotions of dealing with this chronic condition, this new term of eAG has been deemed a very reliable mathematic translation from the A1C, (A1C read as a %).

  • Continued key components of coping :
  • be your active self
  • add this to your knowledge base about diabetes, share with family and friends
  • you decide on all aspects of control. Click here to read it."
    Be your best. Regards Sue
