Type 1 is when the body does not produce insulin. Type 2 is when the body makes insulin but it does not work properly. Over time Type 2 changes and the body may lose its ability to make enough insulin due to years of working very hard. Insulin may need to be part of the treatment for Type 2 diabetes, but that doesn't make it Type 1. Hope that helps.

I have had diabetes for 20 years. For 10 years I was type 2. Now I am Type 1. I am 82 years old, and have handled my diabetes well. It has not changed my lifestyle. Most type one turn into type 2 (like I did). Good luck to you. God bless.
