Hello jstretch
Please go to a hospital. I usually do not recommend sending people to the Emergency Room but I am concerned that you may have glucose levels that are very high. When you are in the hospital, the social workers can assist you in applying and obtaining Medicaid. That is the federally funded insurance for people with low income and for people with catestrophic illness. You most likely qualify. Get stabilized at the ER. Get started with finding insurance. Ask about free clinics in your area if the insurance does not come through. Call your county welfare office. Ask your college advisor and talk to the college social services. You must see a doctor.

Once you are connected with a health care provider, be sure to see a podiatrist. You may need a referral for this so ask. Also see an ophthalmologist as soon as you can.

Please do not ignore your diabetes. You may have to make some tough changes in your life, but if you don't get care. the statement you said about dying may be a self-proclaimed prophesy.

Yup. Go to the hospital. They get grants to cover uninsured patients (I was one-they wiped out my 15K bill when I was diagnosed 4 months ago) and they will also hook you up with a diabetic counselor and a prescription assistance program. You can google Sanofi Aventis and Novo Nordisk patient assistance programs and download the forms to have your doc sign. They will send a 3 month supply of insulin to your doctor's office, as well as pen needles, and a hypokit if you order them. Wal-Mart has very cheap test strips and meters, needles, etc. You can also order from Amazon.com which has very cheap test strips. Also, call a diabetic educator at your local hospital (just call the hospital mainline and they will connect you) and you can get a grant to see the educator and dietician. They can also hook you up with free samples of test strips, insulins, etc. Good luck!!
