"Tingling in left thigh and lower back pains"
Asked By: dawn24
Category: Neuropathy

Background Info Hide
Hi there, for a while now, my left thigh will sometimes be overcome with a numbness and tingling feeling. Like it just fell asleep while standing, sitting, or even walking. I can't really say how long it has been happening to me since I just kind of thought nothing of it and ignored it. So lately, I have been getting horrible lower back pains sometimes from standing even just for a few minutes. It's a very sharp pain that shoots down my side and hits my left thigh and then my thigh begins to go numb and feels tingly. Sometimes it hurts me so badly that I can't stand to stand! I don't know why or what would be causing this. I haven't injured myself or anything and I'm worried that it might be something caused by my diabetes. I have a doctors appointment anyways this Monday and would like to know before hand what it might be so I can bring it up to him and know what kind of questions to ask him and what kind of testing if any that will need to be done. I'm also a 24 year old female.

Dear dawn24. In my opinion, I think it is highly unlikely that neuropathy caused by your type 2 diabetes is the cause of this pain. The fact that you describe some very intense, stabbing pain makes it all the more important that you see a physician as soon as possible and get a firm diagnosis. This could be a very serious problem and your physician may need to do some tests to determine the cause. Write in after your appointment and let us know what was the diagnosis.
