my son is type 1-diabetic and is 9-years old.he has had diabeties for 3-years now.he gets sick alot in the winter months . has been in the hospital 4-times last winter.he doesnt have much of an immune system and seems to catch the flu very easily.its bad because he goes to the nurse at school to get his blood sugar checked before lunch and is exposed to all the sick kids in her office.i have never had my son get the flu shot, but have been told by his doctors ,he needs it.i have 3 older children that got this flu shot 2-years ago and all three got extreamly ill after getting this ,thats why i never got my son the shot.my friends son has type-1 also and she said she herd there are side affects that you arnt told about with this new swine flu shot.my son has enought problems having type -1 diabeties,im not going to risk him developing some other problem from a side affect.is this true can diabetics develope loopus as a side affect or even the swine flu, what is your opinion?

I find the current vaccines to be safe and effective. There are always patients that don't react well to any given drug or vaccine, but they are rare instances. If your doctor suggest the vaccine, I would get it. My children have diabetes, and they get the vaccine because I feel if they got the flu they would be very sick.
