"Whats the best way for a Type 1 diabetic, woman, on insulin pump to lose weight? Low carb? Low fat? And what about all the lows in the beginning? "

Type 1 diabetic, woman, 40 years old, on an insulin pump for almost 13 years. Diabetic since 12 years old. Always struggled with weight, and high body fat percentage (over 30 if not much more). I am 5 ' 2" and weigh 171lb. I was down to 140 just about 1 1/2 yrs ago. Very slow weight loss in the past, but very frustrating with highs and lows. My last A1C was 8 and my doctor was not happy! I have a glucose sensor as well, but hated wearing it (always fell out, problem with sites etc). Any advice you can give me is greatly appreciated. There are PLENTY of diets out there, but NONE deal with Type 1 diabetics. In fact, most say you can't follow it if you have Type 1 diabetes! Thanks so much!!

Being on the pump of course is going to require frequent if not constant monitoring of glucose levels. You have been on a pump for 13 years so you are well experienced with monitoring your glucose levels. Insulin does cause weight gain. There is no perfect diet that will guarantee weight loss. There is only choosing health foods from all the food groups with portion control. Exercise is essential.

I highly suggest that you get involved with dLife Community blogs and discuss your experiences with others that are on pumps. Good luck and keep walking!
