"I take Actos and in the last week I have developed what I think is sinusitis. I read this is a common side effect. If I stop Actos, will it go away? "

Type 2 about 3 years. Last a1c was 6.5. Metformin 750 mg XL Actos 15 mg. Never had a sinus infection or symptoms like this before.

Thank-you for contacting dLIfe. The best advice is to first confirm your diagnosis of sinusitis with your healthcare provider or ear nose and throat doctor. This is fall and allergy season for some and there are fall colds and flu going around. I hate to see you stop the Actos when it may be totally unrelated and a pure co-incidence.

As they say don't throw the baby out with the bath water. The medication management you are are is keeping you at target healthy A1c levels. This is a credit to your self care behaviors of taking your meds and meal planning and balancing your care.

Once you have a diagnosis from your MD discuss the options of treating your symptoms and maintaining your good glucose control. There presently are not too many options in the Actos drug category (TZD) for you to substitute. Stay well and continued good health.
