Hello,

Thanks for bringing your question to dLife.

Although very rare, insulin therapy has been reported to be temporarily associated with some water retention in poorly controlled diabetes.

Maintaining good blood glucose (sugar) control is the goal. Talk with your doctor about your concerns with taking insulin. He or she would typically start insulin therapy with a low dosage and gradually increase the dosage as needed.

Be sure to let your doctor know immediately if you experience any side-effects to the insulin.

Talk with a registered dietitian about establishing an individualized meal and exercise plan to coordinate with the insulin therapy. You will learn to adjust the insulin to appropriately cover your meals and activities.

Blood glucose control helps to prevent complications of diabetes. Lifestyle change (diet and exercise) and medicines (as needed) can help people with diabetes to achieve and maintain good blood glucose control.

Take care.
