"I wake up @ 5:30 a.m., husband goes to work & I go back to sleep from 6:30 - 8:30. Should I test for FBS @ 5:30 or 8:30?"

It might be interesting to test your blood sugar at both times and compare to see if there is a difference. If you do not eat or drink anything while you are awake from 5:30-6:30 then you can use the 8:30 am blood sugar as a fasting level. However, if you are very active for the hour you are awake, your activity may lower your blood sugar later in the morning. Consistency is important, so choose a time and stick with it. When you vary blood sugar by three hours it will be much harder to look for patterns and trends
