"Can the depo birth control shot bring on nightly hot flashes?"
Asked By: lorriane

Background Info Hide
Diabetic for 26 years. 2 children. I am mostly a undercontroll T1. I recently went off a pump (3 months). I also began my depo shot about the same time (3 months) My husband has been waking me up because I am sweating. I check my bs and it is okay. My endo said it could be hot flashes from the depo. and to be sure I keep an eye on my bs because depo can make bs more difficult to control.

Hello,

Thanks for bringing your question to dLife.

Depo stands for Depo-Provera, a highly effective contraceptive.

Note that all medicines have side effects. Hot flashes are one of the side effects of Depo.

Glad that you are aware that glucose intolerance is another side effect of Depo-Provera.

After taking the Depo for a reasonable time (you decide how long) and the side effects continue to persist, talk with your doctor about switching to another medication. There may be other options with fewer side effects to consider.

Take care.
