"What causes excessive hunger even after a meal of high protein and high fiber?"

All my tests were normal except the glucose tolerance test. With that, my 2 hr. glucose level was 37, which indicates extreme hypoglycemia. My doctor said I had a hyperinsulin response to oral glucose, but i do not have diabetes. My doctor sent me to a dietitian who advised eliminating simple sugars, such as candy, cookies, pastries, etc. She also advised me to consume protein along with any other arbs that I choose to eat. This doesn't seem to help, because I am still hungry all the time. sometimes I have eaten as many as 5 mozzarella string cheese sticks. These control hunger, but for only about 15-20 minutes. Even several tablespoons of natural peanut butter with high fat and protein, and no added sugar does nothing to control my appetite. As a result I tend to eat more often than i did many months ago; and i have gained about 12 lbs. I am becoming desparate and feel hopeless. I think it is just a matter of time before I become obese.

You are hypoglycemic and your doctor is correct that your system is releasing a large amount of insulin when you eat. This can be a precurser to type 2 diabetes. People who are hypoglycemic are at high risk to convert to type 2 diabetes. Your pancreas is overworking and may eventually burn itself out. Then it won't be able to produce enough insulin when you eat. It is important to stay on a well balanced diet with complex carbs, proteins and healthy fats, Do not skip meals. Eat three meals a day and 2 snacks. What are you eating as your fiber? Be sure you are eating both soluble and insoluble fiber in your diet. The soluble helps control your cholesterol and the insoluble helps fill you up. Beans are a great souce of insoluble. Oatmeal has both. You mention string cheese. I do not think this is an aged cheese. It may be converting to sugar very quickly and not really providing the protein that you need. Try snacking on an older cheese like aged cheddar. This type of cheese counts as a protein source.

Even though it may seem to be opposite of what you should do, Exercise. This will help your system get the insulin working better and get the glucose into your muscles . Your body will work much more efficiently.
