"Has anybody heard of Farina that has 87 carbs and 84 g of fiber? I just bought some and it sounds too god too be true. I use it for breakfast."
Asked By: melsua

Background Info Hide
I just purchased a product called Farina that I eat for breakfast. It's like cream of wheat. On the Nutrition info it says that It has 87 grams of carbs and 84 g.of fiber. Only 3g net carbs, Would that be for cooked or dried. Does that even sound right? I'm asking because i don't want to gain weight if that isn't correct.

Hello melsua
Good old cream of wheat! My children ate it almost every cold day growing up!. I do not have the label in front of me to verify the carbs and fiber info but I believe your values! It is a great source of fiber. It is a great source of iron because it is fortified like many breakfast cereals. Just do not cover it in sugar and milk and your are eating a great breakfast. Try adding your favorite dried friuts for sweetness!

Melsua, All grain products are concentrated sources of carbohydrates. Most diabetics cannot eat grain products (breads, cereals, pastas) without their blood sugar skyrocketing. Try for an egg omelette instead for a healthy breakfast. And certainly don't put dried fruit on anything!

All of the online sources for nutrition info on Cream of Wheat are showing fewer total carbs but not nearly as much fiber as you indicate. Everything I am finding is showing 25-35 g per serving (depending on serving size) with about 1 g of fiber. I would be very careful and check your BS before and two and three hours after you eat and see how it affects you.
