Hello Morowland
Congratulations on quiting smoking!! Of course I am only assuming this as you have not shared that with us . I hope I am right! Diabetes affects the circulatory system and puts you at a higher risk for cardiovascular disease including heart attack and stroke. You need to be smoke free!. Many people find nicotine replacement therapy a successful way to quit!. I do not know how long you have been using the lozenges. You should try to slowly wean yourself off of them. They do contain nicotine which is a stimulant and will increase your blood pressure if over used. The lozenges do also have non sugar sweeteners in them. The side effect from intake of too much sugar substitute include GI symptoms like gas and flatulance and more rarely nausea or diarrhea.

So, welcome to a smoke free life! Slowly wean yourself off and be proud that you accomplished something that will be the best way to stay healthy.

Nicotine inhibits the release of insulin from the pancreas, and insulin is a hormone that is responsible for removing excess sugar from a person's blood. I would ween myself off the lozenges if possible.
