Dear Bree445- Thank-you for contacting dlife.com. If a person is well and has no blood pressure issues or kidney issues, The dietary recommendation of sodium is no more than 2,400 mg per day.

As you begin reading labels you may find it very hard to stay within that range. Canned, processed and frozen foods are higher in sodium. It is recommended to rinse canned beans and vegetables to reduce the sodium. There are sauces and broths that are labeled reduced salt.

It is great that you are a mindful consumer. The real answer to your daily intake is all in the labels.

When you eat out there may be times when you can ask a chef for no added salt. The typical American's tastes buds are looking for salt. Stay well and stay self managed.

One great way to lower sodium intake is to stop salting your foods. Just take the salt shaker away from the table and hide it in a cupboard.
