Background Info Hide
I found that i have a low shbg 8 while range is 10-50,i rechecked and it was 10. Is this an indicator of diabetes?Or would it have to be lower? Is there possibility to be prediabetes? I also found that i had low tsh ( 0,86 ) while range is (o.5-5) Isn't this a bit conflicting? My thyroid is normal (size-T3,T4,LH,FSH)

SHBG or Sex hormone binding globulin can be low in patients with hypothyroidism, obesity or polycystic ovary syndrome. Keep in mind that an abnormally functioning thyroid, obesity, and polycystic ovary syndrom can place a person at higher risk for Type 2 Diabetes. If you're concerned about diabetes here's what I suggest. See your doctor regulary and have regular blood work. A person should be diagnosed with pre-diabetes if their fasting glucose is 110-125 mg/dl. They should be diagnosed with diabetes if their fasting glucose is greater than 126 mg/dl or they have a random glucose of 200 or greater. Also, the American Diabetes Association is now recognizing the Hemoglobin A1c test as a way to diagnose diabetes. A person who has no irregular blood sugars will have a HbA1c of 4-6%. If your number is higher than that then it's time to see a diabetes educator and come up with a diabetes self management plan. If you are obese then I would suggest that you increase your physical activity and see a registered dietitian to help you with an appropriate meal plan. I hope this answer helps! I wish you all the best.
