"HAD A CERVICAL FLOUROSCOPIC STEROID SHOT BLOOD SUGARS HAS BEEN 150 FOR 5 DAYS NOW. I AM TYPE II WHEN WILL IT COME DOWN & SHOULD i BE CONCERN?"

Thanks for asking dLife, and yes I would be concerned.

If you normally have readings less than 150 mg/dl, I would attribute the rise to the steroid injection. Medications that can cause the glucose numbers to rise include the group of medications classified as glucocoricoids; however, the duration of action at most is in the 2-3 day range. After 5 days, I think it should have run its course and be out of the circulation and numbers should be trending down. Each person's metabolism individual, your numbers might continue to trend upward and 'take action' would be NOW.

Good job in monitoring and being concerned in the changes. Generally, to dilute the higher numbers

  • maintain adequate fluid intake, the non-carb variety
  • double check on total carb intake, (how does it compare to the original meal planner?)
  • is there a potential of infection (?) this can also impact the numbers upward
  • Activitiy will also bring the glucose numbers down, usually if they are less than 240 mg/dl or so
  • Diabetes is a progressive disease, suggesting as a Ty2, the pancreas islet cells, those producing insulin, begin to produce less and less. Only to suggest, this could be a pivotal time and our insulin production is reducing, (hopefully, not the case).
  • For assistance in a total nutrient analysis, I would suggest: www.Fitday.com or www.Sparkpeople.com as to rule out any additional carb irritation.
    If the blood glucose numbers do not resolve to your usual, yes, I would suggest a call to the PCP/Endocrinologist, to seek medical intervention directions.

    Be your best: ADA's ABC's :

  • A1c<7 %
  • Blood pressure<130/80 mmHg
  • Total cholesterol<200 mg/dl
  • HDL>40 for men and >50 for women
  • LDL<100 mg/dl,
