Hello,

Thanks for bringing your question to dLife.

How interesting that you experience hot flashes along with a lowering effect of blood glucose (sugar) with the metformin. Some find that their blood glucose levels increase with menopausal symptoms.

I did not find any information on metformin causing hot flashes. It may be that you happen to experience hot flashes while on the diabetes medicine.

In fact, a research study reports that hot flashes were relieved by metformin.

Take care.

I was diagnosed with Type 2 and my Dr. prescribed Metformin. I had surgical menopause years before and had my post menopausal symptoms under control with 100 mg of Zoloft. I had been on Estrace for years after my Hysterectomy but stopped taking it when it was suggested that women with a family history of Breast Cancer shouldn't be on hormone therapy. My Dr. suggested using Zoloft as it had been effective in helping with post menopausal symptoms. When I started taking the Metformin all of my post menopausal symptoms returned even though I was still on the Zoloft. I was unhappy with the retun of my post menopausal symptoms so the Dr. let me stop taking the Metformin. All of the post menopausal symtoms disappeared once I stopped taking the Metformin. I am glad to know I was not the only one who has experienced the same side effects from Metformin.
