Dear ghicks, Don't try to self diagnose a severe pain. What if you were having a heart attack or angina? If your doctor can't diagnose the cause of the pain, ask for a referral to a doctor with more specialty emphasis. Try an internal medicine doctor. Don't wait. Go in and see the doctor right away. If it gets worse, I would go to a local emergency room. Severe pain in the arm is nothing to fool with.

If you DIDN'T have type 1 diabetes, what could it be? Your aren't very precise about the location, degree or type of pain, so the list is long. The most life threatening possibilities would be a heart attack or blockage of an artery. That's why ou shouldn't try to self-diagnose the cause of severe or recurring pain.
