Background Info Hide
I have been to see a dietician and have not gotten any advise that I can use. I can eat green vegetables, pineapple, bananas if they are on the green side too. Since my body lacks a lot of the nutrients that it needs, I do take a multi vitaimin. I am also in menopause and have been for 1/12 years. I have Graves Disease also. I would appreciate any advise ou may have to offer. Lori Hartke

Hello,

Thanks for bringing your question to dLife.

Fructose is a sugar found naturally in fruits, honey and some syrups. Fructose is also a basic component in table sugar (sucrose). It's used to sweeten many processed foods and beverages.

Sorbitol — a sugar alcohol — is converted to fructose during digestion. People with fructose intolerance should avoid foods that contain fructose and sucrose as well as sorbitol.

Avoid foods that contain:

  • Fructose

  • High-fructose corn syrup

  • Table sugar (sucrose)

  • Confectioner's sugar or powdered sugar

  • Fruit and fruit juices

  • Honey

  • Regular sodas

  • Flavored water

  • Sorbitol

  • Sports drinks

  • Sweetened milk or sweetened milk beverages

Continue to count your carbohydrate in the foods that you are allowed, such as whole grain breads and cereals, brown rice, pasta, etc. Less processed foods tend to contain little or no added fructose. Be sure to carefully read food labels.

I recommend that you work closely with a registered dietitian. You should be able to locate one with whom you can communicate. Your health and blood glucose depends on it. .

    Take care.
