Honey is not much different than table sugar. Both are simple carbohydrates that have a fairly rapid effect on raising blood glucose levels. There is nothing wrong with using honey instead of sugar, however, both are mainly just sweeteners without a lot of nutritional value. If you choose to use honey, it needs to be counted in your meal plan as a carbohydrate. 2 teaspoons of honey contains about 15 grams or one serving of carbohydrate. I am not aware of any studies that indicate honey is bad for diabetes, but again, it needs to be counted as a carb in your meal plan and is best tolerated if taken with other foods verses on an empty stomach. By this, I mean that if taken with other foods, it will be less likely to spike your blood sugar levels. Hope this helps.
