Thanks for writing dLife. Your question is very good, as it points out a factor that is often not considered when blood sugars rise- namely stress. When there is any type of stress- whether it be from an illness, or invasive treatment such as a surgery, the body starts to react in a defensive manner which creates a hormonal response. These stress related hormones can typically cause a rise in blood glucose levels, regardless of diet or other factors. Discuss these blood sugar elevations with your doctor - namely how long they last and how high they actually are and ask for advice. Also, be sure to follow other medical instructions regarding the phlebotomy and especially pay good attention to proper diet planning (including watching iron content of foods eaten) and adequate intake of fluids. Best of luck to you!
