Dear lauriemiller, Thank you for your question regarding eating tomatoes on a diet that is recommended for a person with diabetes. I encourage the eating of tomatoes because they are low in carbohydrates and high in vitamins and minerals. 1 medium raw tomato or 1/2 cup cooked tomatoes is about 5 grams of carbohydrates. Three servings would equal 1 slice of bread. I usually remind my patients that if they have diet questions, they should discuss their questions with a Registered Dietitian. The advice you will receive will be much more accurate.

You know when I hear stuff like this it tells me how really out of touch doctors in America are. Do they understand anything about food and what it does to a diabetics body. Sure you can eat tomatoes maybe he meant dont eat a can of tomato paste or something like that it might have sugar added jeez.
