Yes, the cold and flu season is upon us. You've asked a great question. It's easy to become overwhelmed with all the choices we are presented with at the store today. Your son's pediatrician as well as your local pharmacist are great resources. Ask for their input. Often times just a basic decongestant and a pain reliever for a few days are all that's needed. Elevating your son's head on an extra pillow and keeping the air in his bedroom humidified are helpful as well. Keep him hydrated with plenty of sugar free fluids and keep an extra close watch on his blood sugars as well. If you notice that they're trending up, his insulin dosing will need to be adjusted during the illness. Keep an open line of communication with the doctor's office and keep good blood sugar, insulin, and carbohydrate records as well so the doctor can make helpful suggestions and changes when needed. Hope he's better soon!
