Background Info Hide
At 4/5 hr - I was shacking, agitated and crying. Low and high sugar varies extremely - feel dizzy, very weak and tired, numbness in extremities. Neurologists said I was hypoglycemic. Tested for MS by MRI - test negative. Cant gain weight. I'm 24 at 120lbs, exercise occasionally and have straitened up my poor eating habits. I do feel better but still have my days. Unemployed and no health insurance so further testing and seeing an endocrinologists came to a halt for now.

Hello Briton08: So, how have you been surviving since the testing? Have small frequent meals, with an emphasis on protein helped?

The lab results and symptoms you describe definitely indicate an error in the insulin, (a hormone) functions. If sounds as if it is super efficient-those shaky-emotional symptoms, and then insulin lags-glucose numbers over 200mg/dl., stays high at the 2-3 hour and them insulin, (it functions as a key to open cells to allow circulating blood glucose, to enter the cell and do what it is suppose to, or Hypo-hyperglycemia's, yo-yos and error in how the body should function. Hypoglycemia being defined as less than 70 mg/dl, or the symptoms you described, this is stressful to the body, results in very non-normal, and YOU felt the result.

I am glad to hear the unusual symptoms you have experienced are due primarily to a mis-behaving hormone-insulin, and not MS.
I would suggest a dietary treatment of the small frequent meals, include high biological value protein-of animal sources at most meals and snacks. I would suggest a nutrient analysis via www.Fitday.com as to evaluate total calorie needs vs. actual eaten, look at the distribution of carbs(avoiding simple-refined types of sugars, as much as possible), protein, and fats: 6-7 meals per day, incorporating balance, (veggies, milk, whole grains, nuts, beans-have variety). Fat is the highest calorie in value, 9 cals per gram. It still should not be any more than 30-35% of your total calories.

Regarding the high blood glucoses, it seems your test 2 yrs. ago, the insulin resistance was 1-3hrs after a meal-further stressing the need for the smaller more frequent meals. I would encourage some reading on this Hypo-hyperglycemia syndrome. This site should offer some information,

  • you still need to test, occasional 1-2 hr. after a noon meal or dinner meal
  • Regarding sources for help: State Medicaid: Social Sec. office, you have a diagnosis of diabetes.
