Dear lennylee, Thank you for writing into dLife. Most of my professional colleagues would define an A1C level of 6.3 to indicate good blood sugar control. An A1c level of 6.3 achieved by diet and exercise, could be maintained by continuing that regimen. However, if your A1c was 7.3, I would definitely discuss the use of diabetes medications with my physician.

Unless you are very discilined in eating, diet and exercise would probaly keep your blood sugar under controlled. Just remember too high of a blood sugar count will cause organ damage , if too high too long. Be sure to test blood sugar very often. And lose weight to help to keep you in control of your blood sugar. I f not so discilined, 7.3 is in a diabetic of condition, and medications should be used if only in a small dosage. Also intake of carbohydrates and processed foods should be extremely limited, in that you will need some carbs to attain energy daily.

I am a bit confused by the question. An a1c of 7.3 would for sure be a diabetic. An a1c of 6.3 is elevated and the treatment would be the same, eat fresh foods and limit any refined carbs. Actual bs readings would be a better thing to go off of. Anyway you look at eat you have to take action to control your bs.
