Hello hope 1961
It is recommended to have an annual Random Microalbumin urinalysis to see if there is any problems with your kidneys. If that test comes back elevated, doctors order a 24 hour urine test that measures creatinine clearance. This is a specific test that will show how well your kidneys are functioning. It is important to collect the sample correctly and to keep the sample on ice. Some collection containers have a preservative in them. I empathize with your concern. Kidney failure is a complication of diabetes that effects some people. Be sure to see a nephrologist to be fully evaluated. Discuss food choices and be sure you understand the diet you should follow. Ask if you should be limiting your protein intake. Be proactive! Ask many questions. How is your glucose control? What is your HgA1c? The tiny vessels in kidneys can be damaged by thick sticky blood tryng to get filtered. It is important to maintain your HgA1c at 7% or less. Ask your endocrinologist what your last HgA1c was and how you can keep you glucose control in a safer range.

Please review dLife recipes that are low protein if your doctor recommends this diet to protect your kidneys. Also, are you on an ACE inhibitor? This type of medication helps protect your kidneys. Ask your doctor about this type of medication.
