"I am so confused. I was just diagnosed with pre diabetes but I can't figure out how I am supposed to be eating now or what I am supposed to be doing?"

Background Info Hide
I was told over the phone that I was considered pre-diabetic and to loose weight and follow a low glycemic diet. I keep looking up information on eating plans and everything seems confusing. Where do I start?

Hello,

Thanks for bringing your question to dLife.

The diagnoses of pre-diabetes means that you have the opportunity to make some lifestyle changes to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes. Glycemic index refers to how rapidly blood glucose (sugar) rises after eating a standard portion of carbohydrate food.

Meal planning and weight loss are no easy tasks. I recommend that you talk with a registered dietitian about establishing an individualized meal and exercise plan. He or she can help you with making healthful food choices, determine the most appropriate portions, read label, modify favorite recipes, as well as how to fit physical activity into your life to improve your blood glucose levels and achieve your target weight goal.

Take care.

Hi for many prediabetics eating healthy foods it will help you so much. Cut out as much of the refined carbs that you can, eating fresh healthy foods and exercising at least 30 minutes a day will help you so much, good luck on your journey.
