"Will a period of uncontrolled blood sugars be harmful in the long run?"
Asked By: kristi.crotenko
Category: Type 1

Background Info Hide
I have been a type one diabetic for four years and I am now 18. For about the past three years my sugars have been out of whack. My A1Cs have been in the 9 to 10. Will this period of time affect me in the long run?

Any period of uncontrolled blood sugars can create a toxic environment in the body, and predispose you to potential complications. The good news is that when you start to take care of yourself, and your blood sugars get in control, some of the damage done can be reversed. Just keep up the good work, and continue to have regular check-ups. Things will get better when you start to live a healthy lifestyle. Good luck! You are now on the right path.
