Stomach upset and diarrhea are side effects of the oral diabetes medicine Metformin. Each person reacts differently to this medicine.
If you are particularly prone to stomach upset and diarrhea, then Metformin might not be the medicine of choice for you. Discuss your concerns with your doctor. He or she can prescribe another diabetes medicine that does not produce stomach upset and diarrhea.
Also see a registered dietitian fabout establishing an individual meal and exercise plan to help control your blood glucose (sugar). They sometimes work better than diabetes medicine in controlling blood glucose levels.
