The typical symptoms of a low (or high) could easily produce those kinds of feelings sure. Depending on the severity of a given low your body is shutting off the lights, closing the doors to your higher brain functions.... You will sweat, your heart will beat very fast, and severe anxiety can definately ring the proverbial doorbell. You'll know pretty quickly if its the diabetes "knocking" as that hyper-awareness you describe will diminish big time if/when your sugar does drop (free fall) hard. Single syllables become hard when sugar gets low enough and a tiny spot on the wall, a sleeping kitty, a sock on the floor will hold your attention for a loooooooong time. Lows are easily checked with a quick bg test. A "panic attack" more complex to eliminate I would think, but certainly do-able with time and practice.
