Dear ezqual123: Unopened insulin vials or pens should be stored in the refrigerator, but never frozen. Once a vial or pen has been used, the "opened" insulin can be safely stored at room temperature, as long as it does not exceed 98.6 degrees F (37 degrees C). Many people share your concern, but I can testify that for the past 45 years my opened vials of insulin have been stored at room temperature. I do recommend you keep it away from direct light and avoid temperature extremes. You can safely take it along with you to the restaurant. For further information, type in Insulin Storage and hit “search” in the dLife information box. If you are concerned because of the climate in which you live, you may want to consider a Medicool product; you simly wet the puch with tap water and in 40 seconds it is activated with the potential to stsay cool for 4 days). You can find them at 1-800-433-2469 or find them on the web at www.medicool.com.

Hello there! I am on a insulin pump. However, I have always been told when I am out. I should ALWAYS carry my insulin with. I bought a inexpensive purse/small size cooler for it. dLife offers this and so does other places. You can search the web and find other places to offer such products for you. For college, I also use the messenger bag. There is so many ways you can do this. Hope this helps you out.

Dear ezqual123- If you feel that the climate where you live requires you to refrigerate your insulin, no worries. For any travel or plans that you have simply make a small insulated bag and put a cool ice in it. They sell these products, or you can take a "blue ice" and make one. Put the "blue ice" in a lunch insulated bag or rubbermaid like product and it will stay cool.

Enjoy your plans and have a great evening.

Unless you are in 100 plus degree weather your insulin does not need to be refrigerated. Insulin is good in the open many people think it has to be cool it doesnt. I in fact leave my insulin pens out and have for 24 yrs. Before that it was the syringe but its the same thing. It is the insulin you havent used that needs to be in the fridge.
