Typically the initial meal plan is the "starting point" for most people. The meal plan changes over time. it needs to be periodically modified to meet individual needs and match personal circumstances.
Eating 20-30 grams of carbohydrates before bedtime and so soon after supper may not be appropriate for you. It can also add extra unwanted calories.
Frequent finger sticks will help you to determine how your blood glucose (sugar) responds to the eating foods containing carbohydrates.
Registered dietitians routinely take a food history before recommending a meal plan. The person who made the recommendation might not have been aware of your daily meal pattern. Based on your fingersticks, the bedtime snacks may or may not be necessary for you.
