Hello,

Thanks for bringing your question to dLife.

The recommendation for drinking alcoholic beverages is the same as it is for the general population: one drink for women and two drinks for men (based on body weight). For people with diabetes and pre-diabetes, have your wine with a meal to minimize any dramatic changes in blood glucose (sugar).

One drink is 4 oz. wine Avoid added sugars as in wine coolers and mixers. Syrups, juices, and regular sweetened sodas contain added sugars. They also add unwanted calories for people interested in controlling their weight.

Enjoy!

Prediabetic means you aren't one of us yet, but you are well on your way into the club. This club like the hotel California you can never leave. Learn to eat healther, its not a bad as it sound, actualy it is very good and get an exersize program. One out side your home where you can make a couple friends that you can encurage and they can encurage you. No hard core no pain no gain program just exersize for an hour or 45 min. a walk maybe light weight and make sure you are having fun with it. You stick with it for six months work out a min of 3 time a week 4 when you can. Keep track of what you eat, everything and no eating a cup and counting 1/2 cup. And you will look in the mirror and won't believe who is looking back. You will also feel so much better. No matter how good you think you feel now. Best of all if you keep it up you won't ever make the club, and trust me that the best part of all. Oh by the way, I drink 4 to 6 ozs. of wine with dinner every night. even with a peanutbuter sandwich. When they caught my diabetes my A1C was north of 12 now it is 5.2. It is all up to you, Good Luck Dunigan

I have to agree with Liz Q. I'm a diabetic, and I really don't know what is a pre-diabetic. Either you are, or you are not. If you are, more than likely you would be a Type 2 Diabetic, and your doctor would have put you on Metformin, like me. If your glucose level tends to consistently run high, then you could become diabetic over time. Get serious, diabetes is! Cut out the simple sugar, and reduce your carbohydrates per meal, and for in-between snacks. You'll feel like it's altering your life style, and you are correct, but it's a whole lot better than the results of diabetes. You are what you eat, so only eat what you want to be. Get on some simple exercise program. I like wine, but I infrequently have a glass. I'm turned on to Muscadine grape juice. It contains powerful anti-oxidants beyond cranberries. Plus, I'm going on to a Resveratrol supplement. No more wonderful orange juice with all it's sugar, to wear out your pancreas, plus the acid to burn out your esoph. Look all this up on the net, and you might be converted. Good Luck!
