Hello dspepper
To answer your question as to reducing your glucose level without medication, drinking water to thin the blood and exercising to lower insulin resistance to get the glucose into the cells is the answer.

I am concerned if you frequently have highs of 250-280mg/dl like you noted. This will increase yyour risk for short and long term complications of diabetes. Please try to stay away from the "white foods" like white bread, white rice, white potatoes. Make better food choices of high fiber carbohydrates. Choose whole grain breads, brown rice or sweet potatoes. The general rule is the more natural color a food has, the more nutient dense the food.

We all know the benefits of exercise but think we cannot dedicate the time and energy. Walking 30 minutes a day will really help with your glucose control. It will be an enjoyable part of your treatment plan.
