Dear Jade12- Thank-you for contacting dLIfe. First let me make sure we are talking about units and not ml. Yes, there are some patients that have improved control with Lantus twice a day. This is a basal insulin that begins working within an hour and does not have a peak period and can last up to 24 hours. It is to work between meals and during sleep.

There are ongoing studies and discussion about the use of Lantus twice a day. There is no harm. The important thing is how is this controlling your husbands glucose levels? Is he having any hypoglycemic episodes? If he has good control then this is the best pattern of medication for him. To read more about Lantus there is a supplement add by Sanofi Aventis the company that makes Lantus on the dlife website.

Continued good health to your husband.
