"Dr ok'd me to go off met, as my numbers are great from where they were. A1C 5.7, bs 104. My vice is one bowl of frozen yogurt each evening? bad?"

Background Info Hide
120 days ago I was newly diagnosed type 2. A1C was 8.2, blood sugar was 157. I've lost 40 pounds and was cleared to go off of metformin of which I was taking 500 mg a day. Very concerned that the frozen yogurt of which I can't seem to shake the heaping bowl ful of each evening could hinder my goal of staying off metformin. It is my only vice. Please talk to me. Thanks

Hi and thanks for writing dLife. Congratulations on your great efforts! We love hearing these great stories of determination and good results. Regarding your frozen yogurt- this is indeed a nice treat. However it would be wise to check your blood sugar levels with a glucose meter about 1 to 1 1/2 hours after you consume this to see how your blood sugar level is affected. This might be a good way to help you determine if your portion may be too big. It might be just the portion size, not necessarily the frozen yogurt itself, that would be a possible problem. You may also try getting some light activity such as walking, after eating your yogurt, which may also help with maintaining better blood sugar levels after food intake. Keep up the great efforts and be sure to keep checking in with your doctor for your regular visits.
