In regards to diabetes, it is not really a matter of food harming your body, but the damage done by high blood sugars. Your blood sugar control at this time is well within target. You should be checking your blood sugar fasting (before eating or drinking anything in the morning) before meals and 2 hours after meals. That doesn't necessarily mean checking 6 times per day, but at least alternating those times to see how insulin is covering your meals. Also be aware that "worrying" or stress can cause an increase in your blood sugar.
As far as food harming your body - heart health is an issue due to the risk of heart disease with diabetes. Focus on lean protein, olive or canola oil to cook, low fat dairy - this helps with cholesterol levels. Be sure daily activity is part of your treatment plan for blood sugar control as well as heart health. Stay focused on your good control - being newly diagnosed, things can change with time. Keep good records and see your physician regularly. If you have not been to any classes ask to be referred to a Diabetes Self Managment Class. Knowledge is power in controlling diabetes.
