"Along with eating properly, is exercise key to losing weight?"
Asked By: kam6972

Background Info Hide
I am type 2 for 11 years. I use a medtronic paradigm pump along with metformin for good glucose control. Exercise is playing a huge roll in keeping my blood glucose down. I was recently told that exercise doesn't help to lose weight. I don't believe this to be true. Kam72

Dear kam6972,

Thank you for writing dLife.

Sounds like you've been reading some of the recent commentary in the news regarding exercise and weight loss. Bottom line... weight control is a matter of energy balance. If you create an energy deficit by eating fewer calories and burning up more calories with exercise you will reduce body weight.

Don't get caught up in the hype, especially when you are successfully managing your blood glucose levels and weight. Research has shown that physical activity can...

  • Lower your blood glucose during and after exercise

  • Lower your A1C

  • Lower your blood pressure

  • Lower your bad cholesterol and raise your good cholesterol

  • Lower your trigylcerides

  • Improve your body's ability to use insulin

  • Lower your risk for heart disease and stroke

  • Help you lose weight and prevent weight regain

You're certainly on the right track kam6972!
