Dear Angela- Thank-you for contacting dLIfe. There is a definite reason you may be getting hypoglycemic responses to your medications. With the recent change in medication you have added a medication that stimulates the production of insulin. This is the Glyburide you are taking. If this medication is not taken just before a meal, it will stimulate insulin to pick up your circulating glucose and cause a low.

First take a look at when you are taking the medication before you add any more food or increase the frequency. Make sure that when you take the pill there are consistent complex carbs in the meal.

When you experience a hypoglycemic episode do you have a good intervention plan? Are you taking in at least 15 grams of fast acting carbohydrates life 8 oz of milk, 4 ounces of oj or 15 gm of glucose tabs?

If you make changes in your medication schedule, keep a log book of your glucose results and show your MD. He may choose to lower your dosage or change your medication if yo remain sensitive. Great job in striving for good self management and being pro active for your best health.

The idea of using medicine is to lower bs, when bs goes into a hypo state its time to talk to the doctor about cutting that med in half. Why go hypo and then have to eat to bring you up, were fighting the beast doing that.
