Dear amanda628,

Thank you for writing dLife and congratulations on managing your diabetes.

Research shows that keeping your blood glucose close to normal reduces your chances of having diabetes complications like eye, kidney and nerve problems.

The American College of Endocrinology recommends an A1C of less than 6.5%. Your individual goals should be set with your health-care team.

Diabetes medication, body weight, food and activity all affect your blood glucose levels. You've already lost 25 pounds which is excellent! Now you want to keep it off by continuing to eat a well-balanced low-calorie diet, and engaging in daily physical activity. Those are the key elements to successful diabetes management.

You're doing just fine. Keep up the good work and be sure to stay in touch with your health-care team.

Healthy regards,
