Your goal should be to maintain your A1c under 7%. Your current a1c level is fantastic, and it reflects your average blood sugar over the last 2-3 months. Your home blood sugars are a reflection of your blood sugar at a given time, not over a period of time. Some factors that can impact your blood sugars from day to day are the things that you eat, exercise or lack of it, adherence to your diabetes medication, illness, and stress. The best way to keep your diabetes under control is to do your best managing these factors ( at least the ones you can control... stress and illness are sometimes tough to prevent).
