Hi and thanks for writing dLife. So glad you asked this question, as kidney disease is a big concern in diabetes. There are often little or no symptoms of kidney disease until it has progressed significantly, so questions such as frequency of urination (which can be related to blood sugar control or other issues) blood work and other physical signs that your doctor looks for are all very important in order to make a timely and accurate diagnosis in order to decide on the best treatment. Blood test are essential in measuring certain substances that indicate how well your kidneys are clearing out waste products as well as how efficiently your kidneys are working. Be sure to review your lab results with your doctor and follow directions very closely regarding diet advice, medication management and other factors regarding diabetes control. Best of luck to you!
